Rats in the Cellar

I came across a quote that I have heard before in a talk, I think it was... and I really like this quote so I thought I would share it on my blogs!

C.S. Lewis quote "Rats in the Cellar" from Mere Christianity:

"We begin to notice, besides our particular sinful acts, our sinfulness; begin to be alarmed not only about what we do, but about what we are. This may sound rather difficult, so I will try to make it clear from my own case. When I come to my evening prayers and try to reckon up the sins of the day, nine times out of ten the most obvious one is some sin against charity; I have sulked or snapped or sneered or snubbed or stormed. And the excuse that immediately springs to my mind is that the provocation was so sudden and unexpected: I was caught off my guard, I have not time to collect myself.

Now that may be an extenuating circumstance as regards those particular acts: they would obviously be worse if they had been deliberate and premeditated. On the other hand, surely what a man does when he is taken off his guard is the best evidence for what sort of a man he is? Surely what pops out before the man has time to put on a disguise is the truth? If there are rats in a cellar you are most likely to see them if you go in very suddenly. But the suddenness does not create the rats: it only prevents them from hiding. In the same way the suddenness of the provocation does not make me an ill-tempered man: it only shows what an ill-tempered man I am. The rats are always there in the cellar, but if you go in shouting and noisily they will have taken cover before you switch on the light."

Oh, what rapture filled his bosom for he saw the living God!

What a wonderful conference weekend!  I'm grateful I had the weekend off and we were able to be together as a family to hear the words of the prophet and the apostles.

My title to this post is taken from the hymn 'Joseph Smith's First Prayer'.  These words filled my mind several times over the weekend as I listened to the words of our prophet in these days...

We are so blessed to have the gospel of Jesus Christ restored to the earth in these latter days!

In parting and since I haven't posted in a while - here's a fun picture I ran across of Asher.

Arr-rar (or ee-ee): TV or movie
Haiyi's: Police cars, airplanes, or anything with a flashing light on it
Gonnies: Blanket(s)
Go-go: Motorcycle
Wa-er: Water or food
Mommy: Used for any person Asher likes (even Dad and Kadie) and he likes to put this at the end of every  sentence!

A Change of Scenery...

Well, while I'm at it tonight I thought I'd give the update on our life here in Jerome. 

After much debate amongst ourselves and prayer and so on we have decided to make a change.  I received a job offer from the hospital in town (St. Luke's Jerome) to do strictly inpatient pharmacy and we decided to go for it.  The reasons are many - but I won't list them all out for you.  I'm sure we'll talk about it sometime down the road.  :)  Suffices to say, working at the hospital will be an excellent move for our family.

Since I'm moving on from retail, I thought it would be appropriate to share this funny poem with you all in parting... it is posted in the pharmacy, but the author is unknown.  Enjoy!

Nova's 6th Birthday

Nova turned six on January 17th!  She is such a big girl - and an interesting one, too.  If you know Nova you know what I mean.  Jess put on a quaint little birthday party for her with Grandma and Grandpa Marlor providing the life of the party.

 She loves writing little notes on pieces of paper, playing with Squinkies (google it) and avoiding chores.

Stitches!

Asher came to visit me in the pharmacy.  He decided to make the visit interesting and fall onto his sippy cup!  Not the most exciting of war stories... and the result...

Seven stitches.  The ladies will love it down the road, Ash.  Look at that shiner!  Jess was a trooper and took him to get it sewn up - he was very, very vocal about his dismay: "No, no, go, go, help! My eye! Help!"

It isn't healing quite as well as we had hoped, but at least he has both eyes so what can we say.  :)
